Retro Radio

rs_radio operates in a few practical radio modes. These are workflow modes, not separate resources.

In this mode, an active DJ is controlling the station.

Typical behavior:

  • DJ goes live from the tablet.
  • Tracks are loaded to Deck A / Deck B or sent directly on-air.
  • Mic can go live over the music.
  • Calls can be accepted and optionally patched to air.
  • Utility tools such as ads, SFX, and weather reads are available.

This is the main interactive broadcast mode.

In this mode, the station continues without active manual curation.

Typical behavior:

  • Scheduler rotates music and ads.
  • Queue logic and defaults keep the station from going silent.
  • Weather prompt segments can be inserted if enabled.

Use this mode when you want the station to stay alive even without a DJ actively mixing.

This is the normal player listener flow for vehicles.

Typical behavior:

  • Player opens the listener UI while inside a vehicle.
  • Player toggles the vehicle radio on/off.
  • Vehicle becomes a world emitter for the station when enabled.
  • Nearby same-station vehicles merge into larger shared emitter zones.

This is the standard car radio behavior.

This is the portable/placed prop emitter workflow.

Typical behavior:

  • Player uses the radio_boombox item.
  • Boombox can be carried, placed, picked back up, or stored.
  • The listener UI can be opened while carrying or from target on the placed boombox.
  • Placed and carried boomboxs act as prop emitters.
  • Boomboxs use enclosure reverb behavior but do not use vehicle closed-door muffling.

This is the portable listening mode.

This is the first stage of call handling.

Typical behavior:

  • Listener queues for a call.
  • DJ accepts the caller.
  • Caller and DJ connect privately through the call channel.
  • Caller is not yet broadcast to everyone.

Use this to screen callers before putting them live.

This is the second stage of call handling.

Typical behavior:

  • DJ toggles the accepted caller from private to live.
  • Caller becomes part of the station mic participant set.
  • Other listeners hear the caller through the normal broadcast path.
  • DJ can return the caller to private mode or drop the call entirely.

This is the on-air talk radio mode.

When external weather authority is enabled, rs_radio behaves as a weather consumer.

Typical behavior:

  • reads weather state from the configured external resource
  • uses it for radio UI, forecast display, and radio-facing weather behavior
  • does not try to be the world weather authority

If rs_weather is active, this is the intended weather operating mode.
